Facing a New Age

"Facing a New Age" was commissioned by Gay City Health Project and Three Dollar Bill Cinema as part of an ongoing video documentation project conducted by Gay City. The film was released on December 28th, 2008, acclaimed by the agencies and their audiences as the best film in the series to date.

"Facing a New Age" a documentary film, was produced—from conception to completion—in just under six weeks for what should have been a three-month production schedule. Gay City required the film be completed before the end of the year in order to meet the grant requirements of Public Health-- Seattle & King County. Xolara Motion Pictures delivered. The film is currently in public exhibition in select venues and is entering film festival circuits.

Gay elderly and civil rights is a subject that is close to home at Xolara Motion Pictures. A feature length film expanding on the subjects presented in "Facing a New Age" is currently in development.

Rock Zombie

Xolara Motion Pictures developed a short film property titled Rock Zombie. This 24 minute Hi-Def film was released on October 14th, 2007.

Rock Zombie will be distributed for television and cablecast, in addition to a limited-edition DVD and an open-market three-title Horror DVD release currently in the works.

Rock Zombie won a bronze statue at the 2007 Telly Awards.

OXY Smokestack Demolition

Xolara LLC was commissioned by Occidental Chemical Corporation and Glenn Springs Holdings to document the process of taking down an 80-year-old smokestack in the Port of Tacoma. While not a full-fledged documentary film, the style is more cinema verite. The video was used just to record the event for safety evaluation purposes. And then there is that thing where everyone loves to watch something blow up.

Shot on three Panasonic HVX200 Hi-Definition cameras at 60fps in 720P. Gravity is Nature's elegance.

Madison Market: A History

Madison Market: A History is a 20 minute documentary about the history of Central Co-Op's origins and development into the successful community cooperative known all over the City of Seattle.

Produced, directed and edited by Mark Ring of Matter Productions, Austen Hoogen of Xolara LLC as Director of Photography.

Pierce County Alliance: PrometaTM Trial

This corporate video DVD was produced by the M-Network based out of Miami, Florida for Hythiam. The DVD features Pierce County Alliance — a Tacoma based drug and alcohol dependency treatment center — in their trial program using PrometaTM.

The M-Network hired Xolara Motion Pictures to provide local production services for the creation of this corporate video DVD, which was showcased at the National Association of Drug Court Professionals conference in Seattle, Washington. When the DVD was completed, The M-Network turned once again to Xolara Motion Pictures to provide production and media services at the conference itself!

Love, Inc.

Love, Inc. was the result of a thesis project out of the Film and Video Communications Program at Seattle Central Community College. Love, Inc. earned Austen Hoogen his first Telly award in 2003.

Velabonz: Scream

"Scream" was shot in Tacoma, Washington for Portland, Oregon's band Velabonz. This music video was released in an accompanying DVD with the band's first album, Examples of Wasted Time.

Rolling Requiem 2002

The first anniversary of the attacks on September 11th was met with a worldwide event called Rolling Requiem. Choral groups accompanied by orchestra in each time zone around the world performed Mozart's Requiem beginning at 8:46 am.

Xolara Motion Pictures produced a live-to-tape multi-camera video of this event as experienced at Mason Methodist Church in Tacoma, Washington.

Learning To Burn

This short documentary follows the Lake Cavanaugh Fire Department, a totally volunteer response team, in a training exercise aimed to teach fire fighters how fire behaves in structures, and how to control fire. The property being demolished is one of the original cabins that founded the community of Lake Cavanaugh in the late 30's and early 40's. Sacrificing the cabin to fire helps safeguard this forest community by ensuring that first responders have the experience needed to fight a cabin fire.

This short film is a portrait of Seattle — not of its attractions and history but of its spirit and presence. It is a film of examination and observation of a subtext that influences the city's being, and its occupants, silently and often without notice.

Originally a short film exercise (a video haiku), "City" is the expanded result. Created in the Film and Video Communications Program at Seattle Central Community College.

Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets

Duck: A Film of Fowl Play

For most of us, supermarkets have killed the thrill of the hunt. But for one eccentric Native American artist, our public parks have allowed him to keep his skills sharp. This mock trailer for a non-existent movie was shot in 2000.

Fresh Ground

In 2002 the Seattle Arts Commission sought to create a television program based on the format of Inside the Actor's Studio, instead featuring artists. The pilot for Fresh Ground was shot at the Broadway Performance Hall in front of a live studio audience.

Fresh Ground was the Second Year class project for the Film and Video Communications Program at Seattle Central Community College.

Great Big Balls: Gay Softball A-Gogo!

This short documentary about Seattle's Emerald City Softball Association follows Stellas, a rogue team of players in the D recreation division who epitomize the idea of throwing perfection and competition out the window for the sake of having fun and being free.

Great Big Balls was another first year documentary project out of the Film and Video Communications Program at Seattle Central Community College.

The Truth About GI Joe

The industrial military complex works overtime to create the illusion of a 100% heterosexual armed forces — an idea as absurd as Hitler's "Perfect Race." This short film pokes fun at the radical idea that homosexuals don't exist in the military by simply stating the obvious: yes they do!

While The Truth About GI Joe doesn't attempt to address the philosophical specifics about gays in the military, this short film seeks to keep it a topic worthy of discussion in our society.

The Truth About GI Joe was an exercise in not wasting film. Every shot was planned out ahead of time, and only retakes were made when absolutely needed. This was a project out of the Film and Video Communications Program at Seattle Central Community College.

This mock newscast is a breaking news broadcast of an immanent meteor impact with Earth. Meteor Puck was a project out of the Film and Video Communications Program at Seattle Central Community College.
